Find Freedom Where You Are
At the year’s end, we humans have a tendency to look back at the year that was, trying to make sense of it all and also ponder how things might be different in our future. A year ago, no one could’ve imagined what 2020 would have in store for us. Looking back, we find ourselves still floating among the remains of a catastrophic pandemic that has caused so much pain and suffering. We’ve seen the cracks in the surface of our democracy and our nation (U.S.) be blown apart by racial and cultural injustices, political divisiveness, destructive wildfires, and economic agony. In short, 2020 was a real dumpster fire. However, in the wake of destruction there is always space created for renewal. We have been granted an opportunity to see, often with brutal clarity, where our work needs to be done. Though it may seem daunting, this is our moment. Our moment to keep doing the next right thing. We can and we will keep moving forward with the wisdom we have gained this year and in doing so, our future is sure to be bright.
We thought we’d leave you with a goofy little peek into our year, wishing you all the best this holiday season and the happiest new year.
See you in 2021,
Love the Honeycomb Strategies Team
What was the silver lining of 2020?
Tim: Social and racial injustice coming to the forefront of the national conversation and collective awareness.
Amanda: Spending more time with my kids and adventuring across Oregon with my family.
Lindsay: Finally convincing my partner to get a puppy... And then 3 months later a cat! And exploring the beautiful areas in my home state.
What was the biggest challenge for you in 2020?
Lindsay: Bad internet connections and not enough toilet paper.
Amanda: Spending more time with my kids...and starting my new ‘job’ as a virtual kindergarten teacher for my son’s Spanish language-immersion classroom. I don’t speak Spanish.
Tim: Staying positive in a time with so much negativity and divisiveness.
What are you looking forward to in 2021?
Tim: Not being stuck at home.
Lindsay: Seeing the happy faces of my clients IN PERSON and not on a zoom call.
Amanda: Hugging friends, family and clients!
How do you think the industry will change post-pandemic?
Lindsay: More hybrid events, and an increased focus on technology for engagement.
Amanda: Events that are more conscientious of increasing diversity, equity and accessibility in event programming and experiences.
Tim: A bigger focus on wellness and safety.
What is your favorite holiday tradition?
Lindsay: Opening presents on Christmas morning, then skiing as a family, followed by a big dinner.
Tim: Spending it on the beach, no white Christmas for me!
Amanda: New tradition we made this year. Hanukkah dinner with family from all over the country. Everyone spoke over each other and my kids could barely sit still. We haven’t been together for Hanukkah in years and this felt great. We laughed and lit candles and I think it will be something we carry on into the future.
