Sustainable Sport Index - Industry Sustainability Benchmarking Report

This past Spring, we launched the sports industry's first effort to collect and aggregate environmental and social sustainability metrics. For an industry built on data, this information had simply never been collected. The survey asked questions of sports teams and venues in 12 key performance indicators such as energy, water, waste, transportation, food and beverage, sponsorships, wellness, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). While each participating organization will receive their own free, personal, and confidential report showing where they rank amongst their peers, we've also developed a free, public-facing report that summarizes our findings.  Simply visit Sustainable Sport Index and click on the Download Survey link. Please consider sharing it with your peers, colleagues, and network!

The data we collected is encouraging, surprising, and eye-opening. It is our hope that it will help the industry progress in the coming years. Some key take-a-ways from the report:

  • FAN NEEDS ARE A PRIORITY: Addressing the needs of mothers and people who need sensory support is a top priority for teams and facilities.

  • FACILITIES SEE THE VALUE IN SUSTAINABILITY CERTIFICATIONS: Sixty-five percent (65%) of responding facilities have achieved some type of sustainability-related certification.

  • CARBON TRACKING AND OFFSETTING IS VIRTUALLY NON-EXISTENT: Only 16.67% of facilities and teams track their carbon emissions with just one team offsetting emissions.

If you're interested in participating in the 2022 Sustainable Sport Index, please sign up on the website. Our team is here to answer any questions and to help guide you on your team/venue's sustainability journey if needed. Don't hesitate to reach out.
